Founder & CEO

My journey in plumbing began back in 1979, when I was just 11 years old. That was the year my dad started Monson Plumbing, and I spent my summers tagging along on jobs—not because I had to, but because I loved being around him. He taught me the tricks of the trade, as much as an 11-year-old could absorb, and those early experiences stuck with me.

All through high school, I kept learning by his side each summer, eventually earning my journeyman plumber’s license. I worked with my dad for several years after that. But like many young men, I felt the pull to explore other paths. I made some good choices and some not-so-good ones. Life took me away from plumbing for more than 25 years, though I still handled my own repairs and helped family and friends when I could.

In June 2022, life brought me back to Iowa. After the passing of my father in 2018, I returned home to be closer to my remaining family and to help my mother maintain the home my parents built and lived in for 47 years. Over the past three years, it has been both a privilege and an emotional journey to restore that property—to pour my heart, sweat, and time into preserving the legacy they built together.

During that time, I reconnected not just with the home I grew up in, but with the trade my father taught me all those years ago. Plumbing wasn’t just a job—it became a way to rebuild my life from the ground up. As the saying goes: Give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he’ll eat for a lifetime. My father taught me how to fish, and now, at nearly 60 years old, I’m proud to reopen Monson Plumbing and continue the tradition he began.

Since returning, I’ve been humbled by the warm welcome from old friends, neighbors, and community members—some of whom I hadn’t seen in decades. It’s an honor to serve this community once again, to offer honest work for honest pay, and to carry forward the values my father instilled in me.

Thank you for the opportunity to earn your trust. I look forward to meeting more of you along the way.

Warm regards,
Jay Monson
